This event enables an organization’s team members to come to our genba (where the work happens) to master skills in kaizen (improvement work) through active participation in a Rapid Process Improvement Workshop (RPIW) at Virginia Mason.
What is a Rapid Process Improvement Workshop (RPIW)?
An RPIW is a five-day workshop focused on a particular process in which the people who do the work are empowered to eliminate waste and reduce the burden of work. It is designed around the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) method.

An organization’s team of leaders will be guided by Virginia Mason Institute faculty to lead and participate in a Rapid Process Improvement Workshop (RPIW). Participants will apply lean tools and methods to a specific process at Virginia Mason through observation, simulation and testing.

Participants will leave the event with the ability to share improvement ideas to others, a deep knowledge of the Rapid Process Improvement Workshop (RPIW) process through direct participation and the ability to translate the learning through RPIWs at their own organization.
Rapid Process Improvement Workshop Participation
A participant joins a Virginia Mason health care team for five days to actively participate in lean improvement work and identify potential applications to improve patient safety, quality and efficiency at the participant’s own organization.
