Healthcare professionals can now join a cohort for Healthcare Improvement for Leaders (HIL)

Course Cadence: 1st week of February, 1st week of May, 2nd week of July & 2nd week of September.

Build the skills to lead sustainable change in healthcare. At Virginia Mason Institute, we believe every healthcare leader plays a critical role in improving care delivery. Our Healthcare Improvement for Leaders course is an immersive program designed to equip operational and clinical leaders with the tools, methods, and mindsets needed to drive real, lasting improvements in their healthcare organization. Leaders in this program will learn to examine the current state of their teams, workflows and systems. Leaders will proven tools and concepts to reduce inefficiency, and align team efforts for organizational priorities.

This program is designed for healthcare professionals, and rooted in the LEAP model. LEAP (Learn, Experience, Apply, Perform) emphasizes experiential learning and hands-on training, allowing participants to engage deeply with the material and develop a thorough understanding of the concepts. Course Overview

Over this eight-week program, learners will gain skills that will help your organization realize meaningful improvements. Similar to a physician performing diagnostic tests with a patient, learners will study and analyze the current state processes to better understand the business and workflows. Learners will also be introduced to tools and methods to improve upon that current state: think of these as treatment options to be considered. Learners will practice these tools in one’s own area of responsibility
and will apply strategies to engage their team and their ideas to conduct tests of change, as a means of creating new best practices for those who do the work to follow.

Course Format & Delivery Model

HIL courses are taught through a hybrid delivery model over the span of 8 weeks to allow learners to Learn, Experience, Apply and Perform. Learning is delivered on demand through computer-based learning modules with support using live virtual coaching and support. Participants will have approximately 40 hours of learning time. An ideal cohort has 10-20 members; up to 30 can be accommodated.

Learning Outcomes

Healthcare Improvement for Leaders will support leaders to understand how to capture and analyze their current state and will teach and support application of countermeasures to waste and flow challenges.  Expected learning outcomes include:
