The power to make improvements right away

Our partners at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust recently conducted a Rapid Process Improvement Workshop (RPIW) to address inefficiencies in their Elective Orthopedics ward and issues with last-minute cancellations. The team, working with Virginia Mason Institute executive sensei Cindy Jo Allen, collected data and conducted direct observations for six weeks in preparation for a weeklong workshop to share and test their improvement ideas. “Highlighting the waste in our processes is an important step in learning what really adds value for our patients,” says Helen Gilbert, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Kaizen Promotion Office lead.
